Walsh and her longtime playing partner Misty May-Treanor are going for a third straight Olympic gold medal in beach volleyball, one of the more popular events in the Summer Games. (In London, beach volleyball will be played at the historic Horse Guards Parade, near Buckingham Palace.) Walsh missed most of the 2009 season while pregnant with her first son, Joey, though she was back on the beach just 10 weeks after Joey was born. Walsh had a second child, Sundance, in 2010, and missed most of that season as well. But in 2011, she reunited with May-Treanor, and though the pair hasn’t been in top form in the lead-up to London, no beach-volleyball team has shined brighter at the Olympics.
