At 37 years of age, gymnast Oksana Chusovitina is a woman in a sport of teenage pixies. She first participated in the Olympics in 1992 — before many of her rivals were even born — and won gold as part of the Unified Team of former Soviet republics. In Beijing she became the first female gymnast ever to compete in five Olympics. Now representing Germany in her sixth straight Games, she is one of the few women to successfully return to competitive gymnastics after giving birth. Chusovitina remains a favorite to medal on the vault: she won a silver in that event at the world championships last October.
