Lady Godiva was an 11th-century Anglo-Saxon who rode through the streets of Coventry naked in protest of oppressive taxation. Godiva Awakes is a 33-ft. high “carnival puppet” that will flaunt her curves in lingerie. Dreamed up by English fashion designer Zandra Rhodes, the towering 21st-century incarnation made of aluminum and carbon fiber will also wear a coat that chronicles the industrial heritage of the West Midlands. She’ll be powered by 50 cyclists and accompanied by 2,000 dancers, actors, aerialists, musicians, and pyrotechnicians. In July, the four-legged Godiva-zilla will make her way from Coventry all the way to London.
