The military’s so-called “ring of steel” includes the Territorial Army Center in Ilford, east London. During the Olympics it’s home to a fleet of three RAF Puma helicopters. Each can carry up to 12 fully equipped snipers. In the event a Puma is needed for evacuation, it can hold up to six stretchers.
