Taken on July 24, 2012, three days ahead of the Olympics, this photo shows police patrolling the Thames on a rigid inflatable boat (RIB). RIBs can travel at speeds of nearly 60mph. Smaller models can cruise through London’s narrow canals, while other RIBs can speed up to suspicious vessels and deploy equipment that allows forces to mount their target.
