Nickname: “Nuke”
Sport: Boxing
Country: USA
One might understandably assume that an Olympic-caliber bantamweight boxer tagged with a nickname like “Nuke” earned the moniker because of, say, his explosive punching power. In Ohio native Rau’shee Warren’s case, however, while the power is definitely there, the real reason he’s known as Nuke is because as a baby he would fight anyone, anyone, who tried to take away his binky, a.k.a., his NUK. Warren was only 17 when he battled for the U.S. in Athens, losing in the first round. He lost again (in a controversial decision) in Beijing in 2008. Now, at 25, he’s heading to London, for what is likely his last chance at Olympic gold.
