Travis Stevens of the U.S. sustained multiple injuries during his men’s 81-kg judo semifinal match against Ole Bischof of Germany on July 31, 2012. Stevens’ woes began after Bischof awkwardly landed on his face, opening a cut over his left eye. To make matters worse, Bischof later poked the American in his right eye. And if Stevens needed proof that it wasn’t going to be his day, the judges awarded Bischof the win even though many thought Stevens had done enough to prevail.
