Designed by C. Robert Moore, a Disney artist, “Sam”, the Olympic Eagle was created for the Los Angeles Summer Games. The eagle was chosen because it was a symbol of the U.S., but the designers felt he had to appeal to children, so the eagle’s stern visage was transformed into a cuddly, patriotic eagle.
