China’s second qualifier for the all-around, Qiushuang can compete on every apparatus—but frequently fails to hold it together during big meets. She performed well in qualification, but unraveled during the team final two days later. Normally fluid and steady on the beam, she hesitated and had to check several of her landings. She came apart on the floor, posting a disappointing 12.5. In recent months she’s successfully completed the notoriously difficult Amanar vault, but has not yet competed it at the Olympics. Doing so could boost her chances of a medal in the all-around.
