World champion skier Lindsey Vonn of Vail, Colo., inspects the giant slalom course with her coach and husband Thomas Vonn at the Women's World Cup Giant Slalom on Nov. 28, 2009
Lindsey Vonn was Lindsey Kildow when she competed in her first Olympics in 2002. There, she met fellow U.S. skier Thomas Vonn and thus began one of skiing’s most prolific partnerships. Despite a nine-year age difference and an ensuing rift between Lindsey and her father, the two began dating the following year and married in 2005. Lindsey took her husband’s last name, and Thomas ended his own racing career to focus on developing his wife’s.
Lindsey’s profile and talent has since skyrocketed. She brought home two medals from the 2010 Vancouver Games, and has signed contracts with Red Bull, Rolex and Under Armour, among other companies.
The Vonns announced their plan to divorce in November 2011, to the surprise of many. Though they will also end their professional relationship, Lindsey will retain her married name.
