In the crowded pantheon of Ethiopian distance runners, Haile Gebrselassie is the most famous, but the reclusive Kenenisa Bekele, 30, is the most accomplished. He holds the world and Olympic records for 5,000 meters and 10,000 meters, won gold in both events in Beijing in 2008 and is the most successful distance runner in International Association of Athletics Federations history: he was unbeaten in the 10,000-m from 2003 to 2011. Don’t expect postrace interviews. Do expect impossibly explosive finishes.
